The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another operational breakthrough following the arrest of six male suspects involved in armed robbery, motorcycle snatching, and cult-related activities.
It made the arrests during multiple operations, and recovered two firearms, seven live rounds of ammunition, a stolen motorcycle, and other incriminating exhibits.
This was contained in a statement issued by SP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA).
It said “On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Police operatives attached to the Crack Tactical Squad of the Command, while on routine patrol in the Abakpa area of Enugu, intercepted a male suspect riding a black motorcycle and exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
“The suspect, identified as Tochukwu Edeh (male, 27), was searched, leading to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with seven rounds of .9mm ammunition, concealed in a black bag in his possession.”
The statement went on “In a separate operation on August 10, 2025, at about 5:00 a.m., operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad, acting on the confessions of two notorious suspects already in custody for armed robbery and cultism, arrested three additional male suspects: Odoh Friday (aged 24), Okamkpa Onyeka Chukwu (aged 22), and Uzor Okwudili (aged 23).
“All confessed to being members of the Black Axe confraternity. Recovered exhibits include one locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge, three blue candlesticks, and quantities of weeds suspected to be cannabis.”
“In another operation, on August 9, 2025, at approximately 12:45 p.m., operatives attached to the Oji-River Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrested two male suspects: Kosi Ani (aged 22) and Ahmed Ibrahim (aged 29), while they were attempting to sell a snatched Topway motorcycle.”
The arrest and recovery of the motorcycle, the statement noted, followed the operatives’ prompt response to credible intelligence.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having robbed a commercial motorcyclist of the bike at about 9:00 p.m. the previous day.”
Discreet investigations, the statement said, are ongoing into the cases.
“The arrested suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commended the operatives for their gallant efforts and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and ensuring the safety of all residents in Enugu State.
He also urged citizens to continue supporting the Police with credible information to help strengthen public safety and security.
