Brigadier General Ismaila Sule has formally assumed duty as the 17th Director, Directorate of Recruitment of the Nigerian Army.


He succeeded Brigadier General Chibueze Ogbuabo.
The handover ceremony took place on 13 February 2026 at the Directorate Headquarters, Abuja.

In his inaugural remarks, Brigadier General Sule, according to a statement by Captain Abubakar Umar Hammanga, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Directorate of Recruitment, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating the gains recorded under his predecessor’s leadership.
He pledged to sustain ongoing reforms, enhance operational efficiency, and further strengthen the Directorate’s mandate of delivering credible and merit-based recruits into the Nigerian Army.
He charged officers and soldiers to remain steadfast, disciplined and resolute in upholding the highest professional standards in the recruitment process in line with the COAS’ Command Philosophy.
The Director further expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment.
He also commended Brigadier General Ogbuabo for his impactful leadership and wished him success in his future assignments.
In his valedictory address, Brigadier General Ogbuabo congratulated his successor and urged personnel to accord him maximum cooperation.

He emphasized the need for sustained professionalism, integrity and commitment in advancing the Directorate’s critical role in manpower development for the Nigerian Army.
The ceremony featured the formal signing of handover notes, the symbolic lowering and hoisting of the Directorate’s flag and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
