The widows of fallen heroes in Natsinta Cantonment Katsina, on 13 February, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, at the Brigade Headquarters.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the widows and the Brigade, as well as providing an opportunity for them to formally present their welfare concerns.

Speaking on behalf of the widows, Mrs Hauwa Mohammed appealed to the Commander to sustain the existing welfare interventions for widows and their children.
She noted that, in addition to raising their children responsibly, the widows look forward to continued support from the Brigade and the Army in general, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare and general welfare.
Mrs Mohammed, in a statement by Captain Abayomi Adisa, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), further emphasised that the visit was not only to present their concerns but also to reaffirm their loyalty to the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who has sustained various welfare packages aimed at ameliorating the suffering of widows, particularly the Nigerian Army Education Sponsorship Programme for children of deceased personnel.
She further appreciated the Nigerian Army for its efforts in ensuring that the families of fallen personnel are well taken care of.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Ibrahim warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of their and that of their children.

He emphasised that the sacrifices of their late husbands in the service of the nation would not be in vain and assured the widows that the Brigade would continue to take necessary measures to ensure their wellbeing, this he stressed remains a top priority of the Brigade.
