Some troops of 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Matazu in Matazu Local Government Area (LGA) in conjunction with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps operatives have neutralised a foot soldier of a notorious terrorist kingpin.

The killing followed a decisive operation conducted by the two bodies on 27 May, 2026, after a credible intelligence about terrorists plans to attack troops and civilians during the Sallah Celebration.
Security Watch Africa (SWA) gathered that the joint forces proactively mobilised a fighting patrol and waylaid the terrorists along Sayaya road.
“Contact was established with the terrorists who on sighting troops opened fire but troops overwhelmed them with superior firepower and neutralised one. The neutralised terrorist was identified as Mau’re, a foot soldier of the notorious terrorist kingpin, Muhammadu Filani.

“Consequently, troops exploited the general area and recovered one AK47 rifle with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle. The operations was successful and no personnel nor equipment casualty was recorded among security forces.
“Troops will continue to employ every means to ensure adequate protection of the good people of Katsina State.”
