Enugu, Nigeria — The Security Watch Africa Initiatives (SWAI) Network has recognised the leadership and public engagement excellence of the Enugu State Police Command, honouring the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, and the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, at a special presentation in Enugu.
CP Giwa received the 2025 Best Crime Busting Police Chief in West Africa award, while SP Ndukwe was named Best Police Public Relations Officer in Nigeria. The awards were presented on Saturday at the State Command Headquarters, Enugu.
Presenting the awards, the International Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of Security Watch Africa, Mr. Patrick Agbambu, said the honours followed a thorough review of policing records and professional contributions across the sub-region.
According to him, CP Giwa was selected for his proactive, intelligence-led approach to crime prevention and for the measurable impact recorded in Enugu State since assuming office on March 11, 2025. SP Ndukwe earned the national PPRO award for his strategic, transparent and effective police-public relations that have strengthened trust between the Police and the people of Enugu State.
“These awards celebrate leadership, professionalism and commitment to public safety. We urge CP Giwa to sustain the momentum in combating crime, and we encourage SP Ndukwe to continue his exemplary work in bridging the gap between the Police and the community,” Mr. Agbambu said.
The Enugu Command under CP Giwa has in the last 17 months recorded 6,240 arrests, recovered 156 firearms, 1,486 rounds of ammunition, and rescued 211 kidnapped victims. Key to the success have been initiatives such as the Violent Crime Response Unit, the IGP’s Handshake Patrol and the Command-and-Control Centre.
Responding, CP Giwa expressed gratitude to Security Watch Africa for the recognition. He dedicated the award to Almighty God, the Enugu State Government, law-abiding citizens, and other security stakeholders whose support has made the achievements possible.
“I receive this award with humility. It will spur us to do more to keep Enugu State safe and secure,” the CP said.
SP Ndukwe also thanked the organisers and dedicated his award to God, CP Giwa, and the people of Enugu State. “Effective communication is key to policing. We will continue to ensure timely, accurate and people-focused information dissemination,” he said.
The awards were presented as part of the 19th Africa Security Watch Awards, following the 19th Africa Security Watch Conference & Awards held in July 2026 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, Banjul, The Gambia.
The event highlights Security Watch Africa’s commitment to celebrating excellence, professionalism and innovation in security service delivery across Africa.
