Beijing, China – A high-powered delegation of experts from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Trade Modernisation Project Limited (TMPL) has commenced Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for newly acquired Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) scanners and Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) in China.

The two-week exercise, which began October 9, 2026 and ends October 20, 2026, is being conducted at the facility of Nuctech Company Limited, manufacturers of the advanced systems.

The delegation, led by Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, is undertaking comprehensive technical verification of the high-tech scanners and tracking system designed to work in synergy to enhance cargo examination and real-time monitoring from port to destination.
Speaking during the test, DCG Adebakin reaffirmed the commitment of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to leverage technology as catalyst for trade facilitation, revenue optimisation and national security.
She said the FAT is a crucial quality assurance process to ensure both scanners and tracking system conform to contractual specifications and global operational standards before shipment to Nigeria.
“The Nigeria Customs Service under CGC Adeniyi is committed to deploying only cutting-edge, fit-for-purpose technology that will fast-track cargo examination, reduce dwell time, enhance ability to detect concealments and prohibited items, improve revenue generation and facilitate legitimate trade,” she said.
Acting Comptroller, Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII), Deputy Comptroller Umar Madugu, noted that deployment of the new scanners and ECTS will significantly reduce 100% physical examination, minimise human contact, curb cargo diversion and improve efficiency across Customs formations.
General Manager, TMPL, Bamidele Chinedu, described the FAT as a milestone in the implementation of the Trade Modernisation Project, stressing that integration of NII scanners and ECTS is central to achieving a transparent, technology-driven Customs system.
Project Manager, Nuctech Company Limited, Niu Chao, assured the delegation of the company’s commitment to delivering world-class equipment, technical support, capacity building and after-sales services.

Technical experts from NCS and TMPL were also trained on handling, operation and maintenance of the scanners and ECTS to ensure seamless deployment and sustainability in Nigeria.
