Jos, Plateau — Nigeria, Nigerian Army, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, Col Appolonia Anele, OPEP, Maj Gen Maxwell Dangana, News, and Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) to sustain pressure on criminal elements and consolidate on peace and security gains in Plateau State and adjoining areas.
The COAS gave the charge on Monday, 14th September, 2026, during an operational visit to Headquarters 3 Division and OPEP in Jos, where he assessed the security situation, ongoing operations and measures put in place to protect vulnerable communities.
As part of efforts to modernise the Army’s operational capabilities, Gen Shaibu inspected the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Control Station.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
The facility, when completed, is expected to boost the Army’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, enhance real-time situational awareness and provide commanders with timely intelligence for informed decision-making.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander OPEP, Major General Maxwell Dangana, briefed the COAS on the security situation within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
He highlighted ongoing operations, security deployments and stakeholder engagements aimed at preventing violence and promoting sustainable peace.
Commending the troops for their courage, professionalism and dedication to duty, the COAS urged them to remain alert, disciplined and mission-ready, while strengthening synergy with other security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders in the peace process.
He stressed that kinetic operations must be complemented with dialogue, reconciliation and other peace-building initiatives to prevent criminal elements from reversing gains already recorded.
He directed troops to respond decisively to threats while upholding professionalism and respect for the rights of law-abiding citizens.
Gen Shaibu assured the troops of the Army Headquarters’ continued support to enable them to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively, reiterating the Nigerian Army’s resolve to protect lives and property and create an enabling environment for peaceful coexistence and lawful economic activities.
He also called on residents of Plateau State to continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that lasting peace on the Plateau requires collective responsibility of security agencies, government institutions, traditional authorities and citizens.
