Maiduguri, Nigeria — Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday visited the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri, where he pledged increased support for troops securing liberated communities along the State’s border areas.
The visit followed the Governor’s operational tour of 68 Battalion Nigerian Army in Mallam-Fatori, headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area.
At the Theatre Command, Governor Zulum commended officers and men of OPHK for their courage, resilience and sustained commitment to maintaining security across border communities.
He said the efforts of the troops had created the conditions necessary for the restoration of civilian life in areas previously deserted due to insurgency.
The Governor and the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar reviewed the security situation in the Mallam-Fatori axis and ongoing operations to consolidate military gains, secure liberated communities, and sustain the return of displaced populations.
Zulum acknowledged the critical role of the Military in holding liberated territories and assured OPHK of continued support from the Borno State Government.
He said the support would focus on providing essential requirements to enhance troops’ operational effectiveness in the field.
“Your sacrifice is enabling us to return our people to their ancestral homes. Government will continue to stand with you,” the Governor told the Theatre Command.
The engagement also highlighted the State government’s drive to accelerate the resettlement of more liberated communities and facilitate the safe and dignified return of refugees from neighbouring countries.
According to Zulum, the civilian efforts are designed to complement the security gains achieved by OPHK, with focus on restoring essential services, rebuilding infrastructure and creating conditions for sustainable reintegration.
Earlier at 68 Battalion, Mallam-Fatori, the Governor interacted with the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Daniel Chiwar, senior officers and troops deployed to the border community.
He commended their steadfastness in securing the area and reiterated government’s commitment to their welfare.
The Theatre Command OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar appreciated the continued partnership with Borno State Government and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining coordinated military operations to protect communities, secure critical infrastructure and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons across the theatre.
