A 27-year-old man, Okechukwu Micheal, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Chinyere Orji at Alaba Rago area of Lagos State.
Micheal had allegedly stabbed the deceased after a disagreement over her choice to continue as a commercial sex worker.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, aged 38, met the suspect six months ago, and had moved in with him.
The suspect was however arrested for the murder after Tasks Force officials in the market were alerted by neighbour, who witnessed the killing.
Making confessional statement, Micheal said the killing was not intentional but an accident.
He said: “ I did not kill her intentionally, everything that happened was a mistake. We got into an argument when she wanted to go out to ‘hustle’ (prostitution).
“ She was working as a prostitute even before we started dating, but I told her to stop so that we can start a new life together, but she refused to yield to my advice.
“ That night, she had dressed up and was about going out when I retuned home. We got into an argument when I tried to stop her from going out, she refused and she got angry and started scattering everything in the house.
“ I pushed her and she fell on a standing mirror in the room and it cut her belly, and she started bleeding, which resulted in her death. I never intended to kill her. ”
Similarly, a 28- year-old mother of three, Justin Eje has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her husband to death at Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
According to Eje, she and her deceased husband have been separated over irreconcilable differences, and she had since relocated with her children to Igbo-Nla in Ikorodu.
She said the deceased was the cause of his own misfortune.
Eje said: ” One fateful day, my late husband Edwin Anduaka came to my house in Ikorodu and said he wanted to collect chain and a cloth from me, after I had given him those things he requested for. And he told me there was problem. When he told me that there’s problem, I tried to calm him down to know what the problem was
” After I had calmed him down, he left and came back to me at my kiosk where I sell noodles and demanded for the clothes of the children and I told him they were going to school and pleaded with him to allow them. He started beating me, and I reciprocated. He insisted he must go with the last baby, I refused. While we were fighting the knife I was holding pierced his stomach and he felled down. He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the medical director. ”
