Abuja, Nigeria — The National Association of Retired Immigration Officers (NARIO) will hold its First Annual General Meeting, AGM, from Wednesday, September 23 to Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Merit House, Symposium 1 Hall, Plot 22, J.T. Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja, by 9am prompt.
In a statement signed by ACG AM Usman (rtd), Chairman of the Planning Committee (NARIO), the Association said the two-day meeting will bring together retired senior officers, serving stakeholders and development partners to share experiences and exchange views on emerging immigration trends and doctrines.
The invitation released by NARIO confirms the new venue as Merit House, Maitama, against earlier information, with Date: 23rd-24th September 2026 and Time: 9am prompt.
According to NARIO, the AGM is convened against the backdrop of Nigeria’s multidimensional security and economic environment, with the theme:
“Strengthening Institutional Capacity and Autonomy Amidst Operational Challenges: Repositioning the Nigeria Immigration Service for Border Security, Revenue Generation, Investment Promotion and Sustainable National Development.”
The Association said discussions will centre on how to reposition the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to effectively deliver on its mandates of border security, revenue generation and support for national development amid current operational challenges.
NARIO noted that the AGM is expected to attract a broad spectrum of participants.
They include Members of the National Assembly, Heads and representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, former Comptrollers-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Service Chiefs of paramilitary, Armed Forces and other security agencies.
Others are representatives of International Organizations, the Private Sector, Traditional Rulers, as well as NARIO members from across the country.
The Association said the gathering will provide a platform for institutional memory to meet current policy direction, with retired officers offering insights to strengthen the Service.
NARIO, through its President, extended compliments and a formal invitation to the general public, relevant stakeholders and development partners to participate in the two-day meeting.
