The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim, delivered his maiden address on Tuesday, 6th May 2025.
The event took place at the Academy Auditorium, uniting officers, soldiers, civilian staff, and cadets.
Major General Ibrahim, in his remarks, expressed profound gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, for his appointment.
While pledging to uphold the trust placed in him, the Commandant lauded the achievements of his predecessors, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the Academy’s growth and transformation.
Security Watch Africa (SWA) gathered that he also reaffirmed his commitment to elevating the NDA to world-class status.
A highlight of the event was the unveiling of his four cardinal focus areas concerning the cadets: Training, Marksmanship, Education, and Character.
He stated that these pillars would serve as the foundation for shaping the future leaders of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
Emphasising merit and competence, he urged staff to focus on training future leaders of the AFN.
He stressed the importance of diligence and professionalism.
Instructors were encouraged to acquire more knowledge.
He stated, “Instructors must be knowledgeable and exemplary role models to cadets.” Major General Ibrahim warned against bullying and unprofessional behavior.
Addressing the staff, he highlighted professionalism, dedication, and unity. He assured that staff welfare and accommodation would be prioritised. An inclusive, merit-based environment would be fostered.
Speaking to cadets, the Commandant cautioned against antisocial behavior. He emphasized that disciplinary measures would strictly apply in cases of gross misconduct. Cadets must uphold discipline and integrity.
The event was attended by the Deputy Commandant, Air Vice Marshal A Abdulkadir. Also present were the Academy Provost, Professor Isa Garba, Principal Staff Officers, senior officers, academic staff, cadets, as well as civilian personnel.
