The FCT Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Ajao S. Adewale, has arrested a key suspect involved in the kidnapping and brutal murder of a 55-year-old school nurse and a toddler in her care.
On July 23, 2025, it said that the Command received a distress report concerning the disappearance of Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, a Caregiver at Clear Hope Foundation Academy, Dawaki, Abuja, and a one-year, two-month-old toddler, Nanenter Asher Yese.
A statement by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, and made available to Security Watch Africa (SWA), added “That same day, the victim’s husband received a call from the caregiver’s mobile phone with a demand for ₦250 million ransom.”
The Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, it said, immediately swung into action.
“Through coordinated digital forensic analysis and field operations, the investigation led to Yelwa and Uke villages in Nasarawa State.
“On July 29, operatives apprehended one David Moses, a security guard at the school who was initially presumed a victim. However, during interrogation, he confessed to conspiring with his friend, Sunday Irimiya (now at large), to carry out the heinous crime.”
According to his confession, the suspects lured the caregiver to the school’s bathroom where she was attacked and strangled.
“The toddler was then taken from a classroom and also killed. The corpses were wrapped in a sack, smuggled out of the school using a scavenger’s truck, and dumped in a canal.
“Shockingly, despite having murdered the victims, the suspects continued to demand ₦3 million ransom from the family, falsely promising their release. A fallout over ransom sharing led to Sunday allegedly stabbing David in an attempt to eliminate him. David fled and ran into police operatives already combing the area, leading to his arrest. He has since taken investigators to the canal where the remains of both victims were recovered.”
The statement continued “The FCT Police Command deeply regrets this tragic loss and extends heartfelt condolences to the families of Mrs. Anaene and baby Nanenter.
“While no words can erase the pain, we assure you that the Command will pursue justice relentlessly.”
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ajao Adewale urged all private security firms to vet their personnel through the Nigeria Police Force before deployment.
He also urged Schools and Institutions, especially those handling children and vulnerable individuals, to collaborate with the Police in screening all security personnel to ensure the safety of lives and property.
“The Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure all accomplices face the full weight of the law.
“Residents of the FCT and adjoining areas are enjoined to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via our emergency line.”
