Impressed with its performance in May and June 2025, the FCT Police Command has released its scorecard against criminals in the capital city.
The thorough crime-mapping, identified crime hotspots and implemented an action plan by the FCT Police Command aligned with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Police Command, CP Ajao Saka Adewale gave the breakdown of his Command achievement within the month of May and June 2025 during a Press Briefing at the Command’s Headquarters in Abuja, it was witnessed by Security Watch Africa (SWA).
During the 2 months, a total of 49 cases were reported, leading to the arrest of 82 suspects from various crimes.
The breakdown is as follows:
Arrests:
• Kidnapping: 7 reported cases; 17 suspects arrested, three neutralised.
• Foiled Kidnapping Attempts: 5 attempted kidnapping incidents foiled at Apo Waru, Byhazin, Karshi, Kawo-Bwari, Gidan-Dogo Forest Kweri and Abaji. 3 suspects arrested, 3 others neutralized during shootout while attempting to kidnap victims at Kawo village clinic in Bwari.
• Foiled Robbery: 5 reported cases (1 in Apo and 4 in Kubwa); 6 suspects arrested, 4 vehicles, jack-knife, military camouflage and pistol ammunition were recovered.
• Armed Robbery: 5 cases reported; 17 suspects arrested.
• Theft: 6 cases recorded, 9 suspects arrested.
• Illegal Possession Fireman: 1 case recorded, 1 suspect arrested.
• “One-Chance” Robbery: 1 case reported; 4 suspects arrested.
• Attempted Homicide: 1 case reported, 1 suspect arrested, one locally fabricated pump action shotgun and one expended cartridge recovered.
• Fraud: 1 case reported; 2 suspects arrested.
• Car Thefts: 4 cases reported; 5 suspects arrested (including illegal scrap dealers who receive, butcher and resell stolen vehicles).
• Domestic Violence: 2 reported cases.
• Child Trafficking: 4 cases reported (transferred to the SCID from various Divisions) and 8 suspects were arrested.
• Rape: 12 cases reported, 10 suspects arrested and 4 cases currently under investigation.
Rescues:
• 3 children from trafficking cases
• 8 abandoned and rescued babies which have now been handed over to Social Welfare Centre
• 10 rape victims.
Recoveries:
• Firemans: 3 AK 47 rifles with 3 magazines, 1 locally made pistol and magazine, 1, barreta pistol, 1 pump action shotgun, 2 LAR rifles and 36 rounds of live ammunition.
• Other Exhibit: One axe, nine walkie-talkies, one sharp spear, one short knife, all from robbery cases.
• 1 AC Unit, two motorcycles, 27 iron rods, 9 mobile phones, 11 power banks, 3 Air Pods, 1 smart watch, 8 ATM cards, six phone chargers, one sumac fireman generator set from theft cases.
• 1 jackknife from foiled robbery attempts.
• N79,000 cash recovered from theft case.
Vehicles Recovered:
• 10 vehicles recovered (from Durumi Division, Kubwa Division, Central Police Station and Anti One Chance Squad)
• 2 motorcycles from kidnapping suspects.
FCT Police Command’s plan for the coming months includes:
Building on the successes of May and June 2025, as the Command will intensify:
“•Community policing engagements.
•Intelligence-led policing strategies.
•Targeted clearance operations.
•Public enlightenment initiatives to address the evolving security demands of the FCT.”
The Command also noted that the achievements underscored “its commitment and effort in the proactive fight and intelligence-led strategies against criminality within the nation’s capital and its environs.”
It also assured the residents of the Federal Capital Territory that it will keep taking the fight to the criminals wherever they are in order to sustain the peace being enjoyed in the FCT.
