In separate operations, troops of 17 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base Mabai, in Kankara Local Government Area (LGA), have neutralised several terrorists in their area of operation.
Security Watch Africa (SWA), also gathered that the troops recovered arms and ammunition, among other items.

“On 30 April, 2026, troops of 17 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base Mabai in Kankara LGA while conducting clearance operations at Mabai – Kankara general areas made contact with terrorists riding motorcycle moving towards Danakwabo Village in Kankara LGA with the intent to attack the village.
“Troops aggressively pursued and engaged the terrorists. In the firefight that ensued, troops neutralized two terrorists, recovered one AK47 rifle and one AK 47 magazine with two rounds of 7.62mm special.
“Troops also recovered one motorcycle, four mobile phones, one power bank and sum of Twenty Thousands Naira (₦20,000.00)”
All captured/recovered items are presently at troops custody.
In another case on the same 30 April, 2026 at about 1600 hours, another Brigade troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Dansabau in the same Kankara LGA conducting clearance operations also made contacts with terrorists along Makera – Dansabau road.
“Troops engaged and subdued the terrorists with fierce firepower and they escaped into the bush. However, troops exploited the general area and recovered two motorcycles and one hand set.

In furtherance to 17 Brigade Clearance Operations, on 1 May, 2026, troops of 171 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Fudma in Dutsinma LGA while conducting offensive operations at Turare – Yantumaki general areas came in contact with four armed terrorists riding two motorcycles.
“Troops engaged them with superior firepower and neutralised the four them, captured one AK 47 Rifle and one AK 47 magazine containing five rounds of 7.62mm special.
“Additionally, two motorcycles, three cutlasses, four small GSM phones, three Android phones and cash sum of ₦153,400 were recovered from the terrorists.”
Security Watch Africa also gathered that the GSM phones were sent to 17 Military Intelligent Regiment for forensic investigation while other items are in troops custody.


Also on 4 May, 2026, a team of Quick Reaction Force from 17 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base Matazu received a distress call about terrorists that way laid commuters along road Karaduma – Matazu road in Matazu LGA.
“Troops immediately mobilised to the scene but the terrorists had fled on sighting advancing troops. However, troops engaged them in a hot pursuit along their escape route but no contact was established.
The troops returned and combed the general area and recovered an ash coloured Golf car with registration number KJA 743 FP and chassis no XWVW7771H7RR112476 which was traveling from Kafin-Soli to Matazu.
The recovered vehicle was handed over to the DPO Matazu, SP Ahmed Hamisu for further action.
“The situation of the general area remains calm while monitoring continues.”
