Contrary to reports that Mrs Eunice Aghanya, the wife of a retired Commissioner of Police and onetime Benue State Commissioner of Police (CP), Ibezimako Aghanya was assassinated, reliable source close to the family has said that the renowned baker was killed by burglars.
The source who spoke with Security Watch Africa revealed that late Mrs Aghanya was struck with a sharp object from behind, which led to a head injury resulting in her death.
The source who chose to be anonymous said: ” Reports that she was killed by suspected Herdsmen, gunmen on rampage or assassins are all fake news.
“ I can tell you authoritatively that the self-employed woman was killed at about 12.30 p.m. on Friday March 12, in Makurdi, in her family home she had lived for 24 years. Her husband was Commissioner of Police in the State 18 years ago. Her family lived in Makurdi for 37 years and in the house for 24 years.
” She left home in the morning for her business and when her son called her from Abuja around 12 noon, she told him that she was driving back to the house to pick something and that he should call back later.
“ I strongly believe as she went into the house she suddenly met intruders who entered through the ceiling to steal because when Police came, they saw opening on the ceiling.
” There are Policemen that guards the house but it is only at night. It may be that she recognised the intruder, so he struck her on the head with a sharp object and she died. They locked the door and went away with the car and house key ” .
Security Watch Africa gathered that her son called at about 1p.m. and her phone was off.
The source further added: “ Her car was outside the gate while the other was in the garage. Not being able to reach her on her phone, her worried husband called his cousin on Saturday morning to help go to the house and check on her.
” He met locked doors and had to look through the window and saw her on the floor of the parlour. The Police were called in and they forced the door open and by then, she was lifeless.”
The mourning husband, CP Ibezimako Aghanya, (rtd) confirmed the story and agreed that his beloved wife was most likely killed by suspected burglars and described the wife’s death as unfortunate and painful.
CP Aghanya asked that people should stop spreading fake news and urged the Police to unravel the killer or killers.
