The Force Commander, ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, ESSMGB, Brigadier General Danjuma Ribah Dantani, has paid his maiden operational visit to Nigerian Company 5, NIGCOY 5, in Bissau, charging the contingents to remain focused and committed to the mandate of the Mission.

Major Reuben Kovangiya, Military Public Information Officer, Force Headquarters, ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau, stated that the visit took place on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, at the NIGCOY 5 Camp.

Addressing the officers and soldiers, Brig-Gen Dantani emphasised loyalty, discipline and professionalism as the bedrock of military service.
He directed personnel to strictly adhere to the Mission’s social media policy, maintain high standards of personal hygiene, and shun drug-related offences.
The Force Commander also urged the contingents to engage in regular physical exercise to sustain operational fitness and to always follow lawful instructions through established channels of communication.
“Avoid any conduct or activities capable of jeopardising the Mission or bringing the reputation of the contingents into disrepute,” he warned.

Earlier, the Commanding Officer, NIGCOY 5, Lieutenant Colonel Afam Junior Chidi, welcomed the Force Commander and briefed him on the Company’s operational status.
Lt. Col. Chidi said NIGCOY 5 arrived in the Mission area on 31st July, 2026 and has continued to execute all assigned tasks in accordance with directives from Force Headquarters.
He appreciated the FC for the visit and assured him of the Company’s sustained commitment to its responsibilities and to the attainment of ESSMGB’s objectives.

Highlights of the visit included an address to the contingents, a tour of camp facilities, signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of a memento, and a group photograph.
The ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau was deployed to support peace, security and democratic governance in the country.
