Enugu, Nigeria — The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed senior officers to ramp up proactive policing measures ahead of the Ember Months and the festive season.
CP Giwa gave the directive on Wednesday during a strategic conference with the Command’s senior officers at the State Headquarters, Enugu. The meeting was convened to review security strategies and ensure effective coordination of operations across the State.
Describing the Ember Months as a “critical period,” the CP said the Command would prioritise heightened vigilance, intelligence-led operations, visibility patrols, stop-and-search, and surveillance to prevent crime and maintain public order.
He charged all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical and Operational Units to strengthen intelligence gathering within their jurisdictions and sustain aggressive crime-prevention deployments.
“Operational supervisory officers must ensure proactive deployment of personnel and resources. We must be ahead of criminals, not reacting to them,” CP Giwa stated.
The Commissioner also directed officers to deepen community engagement and partnership with stakeholders while upholding professionalism, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
He assured residents and visitors that the Command is fully prepared to safeguard lives and property throughout the Ember Months, stressing that security during the period is a shared responsibility.
“Policing in this period requires sustained collaboration between the Police, communities, and other security agencies. Enugu must remain safe for business and celebrations,” he added.
The interactive conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, DPOs, and Heads of Formations and Sections of the Command.
