Enugu, South East — Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 25-year-old newly-wed businessman, Lovely Chukwulobelu, for attempting to traffic cocaine to Portugal.
Chukwulobelu was intercepted at the departure hall of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, on Thursday, September 25, 2026, while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Portugal via Addis Ababa; NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, stated on Sunday in Abuja.
NDLEA officers said the suspect, who still had his wedding ring on his finger, had ingested 72 wraps of cocaine.
He was placed under excretion observation, during which he excreted all 72 wraps of the Class A drug.
The suspect claimed he was into a car decoration business at the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos, before relocating to Portugal in May 2023.
He said he returned to Nigeria recently and got married on September 13, 2026, adding that he resorted to drug trafficking to offset expenses incurred during his wedding.
