Lyon, France – The Nigeria Police Force and INTERPOL are strengthening cooperation to improve tracking of criminals and fugitives operating across borders.

The engagement took place in Lyon, France, where Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, met with INTERPOL Secretary General, Valdecy Urquiza, and senior officials of the organisation.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer on Tuesday, discussions focused on intelligence sharing, use of INTERPOL databases, fugitive interdiction and stronger coordination in tackling cybercrime, terrorism, financial crime, corruption and organised transnational crime.
The Nigerian delegation also received briefings on strategic initiatives supporting policing cooperation in West Africa, including WAPIS and GEMINI.

The engagement highlights the growing importance of international cooperation in modern policing, where criminal networks increasingly operate across jurisdictions.

For Nigeria, closer collaboration with INTERPOL provides avenue to strengthen intelligence-led policing and improve the ability of law enforcement to identify, track and disrupt criminals wherever they operate.
